Hey all,

I've been a Freenas user since 2008 and I'm currently on 11.3 u5. I've heard that Freenas/Truenas now loads the os fully into memory, instead of running it off the USB. I just wanted to check and see if this is true, and would it be better to move my install to a single SSD vs 2 usb sticks?

Thanks!

Nope; runs off the boot media you install it to, and apparently does more writing of data to said media than what used to suit the recommendation of USB sticks for booting. I've personally not ran into issues with USB stick failing over time, but I also run them in mirrored pairs just to be sure...but that's only on one system - the other 2 systems use a pair of SATA DOM for boot.
